Stab-Lok & Challenger Panels Replaced • Insurance-Required Upgrades • Same-Week Scheduling • Licensed, Permitted & Inspected
Federal Pacific Electric (FPE) Stab-Lok panels and Challenger panels are two of the most widely documented hazardous electrical panels in the United States. Both have a well-established failure mode: the circuit breakers can fail to trip when they should, allowing wiring to overheat and start a fire. Stab-Lok panels have been linked to thousands of house fires across the country.
In Southwest Florida, many homes built between the 1960s and 1990s still have these original panels. Most Florida homeowners insurance companies now require replacement before they will issue or renew a policy. If your insurance company has flagged your Challenger or Federal Pacific panel, we can typically schedule the replacement within the same week and provide your insurance carrier with the completed permit and inspection documents the same day the job passes inspection.
Look for “Federal Pacific Electric” or “Stab-Lok” on the panel door or breakers. Breakers are typically red and orange. These panels were installed from the 1950s through 1990s.
Challenger panels are labeled “Challenger” on the panel cover. They were manufactured from the 1980s through 1990s and are found throughout SW Florida. Known for the same breaker-failure issue as Stab-Lok.
If your homeowner’s insurance company has sent a notice or refused to renew your policy citing your electrical panel, it is almost certainly a Challenger or Federal Pacific Stab-Lok.
