Charlotte County Community Development (unincorporated Port Charlotte) — Charlotte County issues electrical and generator permits for Port Charlotte through Community Development, Building Construction, at 18500 Murdock Circle, 941-743-1200. For a residential generator the County asks for the application stating the fuel type, a recorded Notice of Commencement for work over $5,000 before the first inspection, load calculations with an electrical diagram, a site plan showing the generator and its final floor elevation, anchoring details and the generator stand information. We prepare and submit all of it.
At a Port Charlotte home we installed two 200-amp Generac automatic transfer switches beside the outdoor meter, one on each side, labeled Emergency Disconnect and Service Disconnect. We trenched about 40 feet to the generator, ran the cable in 2-inch conduit buried at least 24 inches deep, and set the 26 kW generator on a raised concrete pad at the back of the home next to the A/C and the pool equipment. This is the newer Generac equipment that talks over Bluetooth and cellular.
