City of Sanibel Building Department — The City of Sanibel Building Department, 2475 Library Way, (239) 472-4555, requires a separate generator permit. Its standby generator checklist asks for the application, the manufacturer’s specifications, a sound-pressure certification, a screening plan, an owner authorization, a site plan with clearances on all sides, a recorded Notice of Commencement, an elevation sketch, a slab or pad detail, and sealed engineering for an elevated stand. In a Special Flood Hazard Area the pad must be at the Base Flood Elevation plus 1 foot, including a generator at an existing home, and a final survey showing its location and elevation is required before the final inspection. Sites west of the Coastal Construction Control Line need a field permit from the Florida Department of Environmental Protection. Service of more than 600 amps residential must be sealed by a Florida registered electrical engineer. We handle the permit paperwork.
