We replaced the entire electrical service equipment at a commercial property on Fort Myers Beach that was severely damaged by Hurricane Ian. The 400-amp service, including all of the panels, circuits and disconnects, had been completely submerged in floodwater, and every piece of it had to be replaced. We swapped the damaged equipment like for like for new Square D equipment and restored power to the property.

  • Location: Fort Myers Beach, Florida (Winkler Subdivision)
  • Service: commercial electrical service replacement after flood damage
  • Equipment: 400-amp three-phase, four-wire delta (high-leg) service, Square D panelboards and disconnects, wireway

What we did

  • Removed the flood-damaged 400-amp service equipment, including panels, circuits and disconnects.
  • Installed new Square D electrical equipment to replace it like for like.
  • Restored the three-phase, four-wire delta high-leg service to the commercial property.

A high-leg delta service

This is a three-phase, four-wire delta service with a high leg. Phases A and C are 120 volts to ground, and phase B, the high leg, is 208 volts to ground. It is an older type of service that is not commonly used in many areas, but this property still used it, which is why the replacement had to match it.

Why like for like

Many property owners on Fort Myers Beach, especially commercial owners, are still recovering from Hurricane Ian damage because of the high cost and the restrictions involved in replacing equipment. Replacing like for like allowed this property’s electrical service to be restored.

If your Fort Myers Beach building has flood-damaged panels, disconnects or wiring, see our commercial electrical page or contact us to talk through what a replacement involves.
