We installed two Tesla chargers side by side in a home in the Quail West community of Bonita Springs. The home has a 600-amp electrical service, so there was plenty of capacity to run both chargers at once. Quail West is a community where ElectriciansX has completed many jobs.

  • Location: Bonita Springs, Florida (Quail West)
  • Service: dual Tesla charger installation
  • Equipment: two Tesla chargers, #4 SEU cable to each, 600-amp service

What we did

  • Installed two Tesla chargers side by side.
  • Ran a number 4 SEU cable to each charger, sized for the continuous EV charging load.
  • Opened a small section of drywall to run the wiring inside the wall, then patched it afterward so it looks like we were never there.
  • Ran wiring for an exterior disconnect and left a whip at the disconnect for the air conditioning contractor to use when they install a mini split. We do this as standard practice for mini split installs.

Why the cable is sized the way it is

An EV charger counts as a continuous load, so the National Electrical Code requires the circuit conductors to be sized at 125 percent of the charger load. Sizing each run for that load means each charger can charge at its best, even with two running at once.
