A homeowner in the Mirror Lakes community of Lehigh Acres bought a Generac 22 kW standby generator separately and called us to install it. If you bought a generator on your own, or got one from someone else, we can install it.

  • Location: Lehigh Acres, Florida (Mirror Lakes)
  • Service: installation of a homeowner-supplied Generac standby generator
  • Equipment: Generac 22 kW generator, automatic transfer switch, hurricane-resistant concrete pad

What we did

  • Installed the 22 kW Generac standby generator, supplied by the homeowner.
  • Placed a hurricane-resistant concrete pad on pavers, sand and gravel, leveling the base so the generator sits level.
  • Installed an automatic transfer switch to the left of the meter on the exterior wall.
  • Connected the transfer switch to the generator and to the home’s existing 200-amp panel in the garage, so the home switches to generator power automatically during an outage.

The 200-amp indoor panel in the garage was already installed before our work; we did not install that panel.

What the automatic transfer switch does

An automatic transfer switch watches the power from the utility. When the utility power goes out, the switch signals the generator to start and moves the home’s power over to the generator. When utility power comes back, it switches the home back to the utility.
