A home charger on Estero Island is a dedicated 240-volt circuit from the panel to a garage or carport wall. When the panel and the parking spot are far apart, the first job is to find the shortest sensible run and to check whether the panel has room.
The Town of Fort Myers Beach runs its own Building Services Division within Community Development, separate from Lee County. We apply through the Town’s permit process and schedule the inspection that the Town’s private provider performs.
The Town requires contractors to register with it, and registration needs a state-issued license; Lee County board-licensed contractors cannot register there. Our license, EC13016674, is a Florida state license that you can check on the state’s DBPR site. Ask any contractor you are considering the same question.
Salt air is hard on outdoor equipment, so we favor a garage or covered location when we can and use weather-rated materials when the charger has to be outside. We also look at the rest of the house’s electrical equipment; our new-construction project on Fort Myers Beach shows the kind of panel work we do on the island.
We confirm that the parcel is inside the Town, apply through the Town’s online portal and request the inspection that the Town’s private provider performs. If your address is one of the Fort Myers Beach mailing addresses outside the Town, the application goes to Lee County instead.
