Standby generators • Automatic transfer switches • Permitted & inspected • (239) 880-9473
After Hurricane Ian, backup power is a practical question on Estero Island, where floodwater reached homes and equipment. A generator and its transfer switch are electrical equipment, and where they can sit depends on your lot and its flood conditions. We confirm what applies to your address with the Town before we pour a pad or run conduit.
The Town of Fort Myers Beach runs its own Building Services Division within Community Development, separate from Lee County. Its plan review and inspections are handled through a private provider, so we plan the schedule around that.

It matters, because it decides who permits the work. The Town of Fort Myers Beach covers Estero Island. Some addresses with a Fort Myers Beach mailing address, such as parts of San Carlos Island, are unincorporated and are handled by the Lee County Building Division instead. We check the parcel before we apply.
We have replaced a boat lift motor on a rental property dock that Ian flooded and nobody restored, and a commercial electrical service that had been submerged. Many Fort Myers Beach owners are still recovering. Read how we handled the lift motor and controls; the same step-by-step approach applies when a generator is only part of the project.
The Town’s Building Services Division issues permits, and plan review and inspections go through a private provider that the Town uses. Applications are made online through the Town’s permit portal. Because of flood-zone conditions on the island, the siting of the generator and transfer switch is the part we confirm with the Town first.

“I had Bert come out and install a portable generator plug into my panel… He was very professional.”
